We at Soccer Lions support early child development and early intervention, to ensure “Every Child” has “Every Chance” to have the best start in life.

Our program has been created by early years professionals and experienced soccer / football coaches with over 40 year’s combined experience in their respective fields, thus providing Every child with Every chance to develop and be school ready in their early years ahead. Soccer Lions early years program provides fun and structured sessions, ensuring that each child’s development is recognized, encouraged and praised by instructors. Soccer Lions sessions are delivered in all early years settings, including children Centres, play groups, nurseries and schools.

Children centres

Soccer Lions supports local children centres to achieve many desirable outcomes which can be delivered as a universal service or a targeted intervention service as outreach or within  your children centre.

Soccer Lions many outcomes above are all part of the very successful sessions that are currently working in partnership with children centres today.

Play groups

Soccer Lions can be used to support the development of children and parents attending your playgroups, it can be used as a one off fun session or as a weekly activity to help boost numbers or support parents who may require assistance in a number of areas such as behavior management, self-esteem, self-confidence and ideas on how to use fun games to develop the child development at home.

Private Nurseries

Soccer Lions nursery sessions are an ideal way for children to experience fun and excitement through structured sessions that include: songs, rhymes games and activities using soccer as the medium, supporting children’s development and individual achievements, working with the new Early Years Foundation Stage.

These fantastic sessions promote physical activity and fundamentals of movement whilst building on independence and confidence. Using many different games throughout the program children will be able to play these games again in Nursery, at home with parents or guardians.

All sessions have been created to  develop speech and language development, fundamentals of movement, self confidence, self esteem, social skills, numeracy and understanding instruction and encouraging behavior management.

What is expected?

Sessions are run over a school term with the same group of children attending each week for a minimum of a term. A minimum of 2 sessions per week are required, thus ensuring sustainability of the sessions at your school / nursery.

The sessions will be run depending on the children’s stage of development/levels of ability, in conjunction with the Early Years teacher, who will have greater knowledge of the children’s abilities.

Sessions can be used as a targeted intervention, with numbers of children attending ranging from 4 – 8 children, or more universal activity sessions can be delivered for up to 16 children  per session.  The number of children attending each session will be discussed at the start of the term with head of early years to ensure outcomes are achieved for the children concerned.

How it can work?

Sessions shall be promoted externally by Soccer Lions, in conjunction with any partners who are part of the community sessions.

Schools can either receive remuneration for the use of the facilities or receive services In kind as a contra deal.

Positive role models

EYFS/Ofsted

The EYFS sets the standards for development, learning and care of children from birth to age five.

Our Soccer Lions programme has been created to aid children in the development of skills in the following prime areas of the EYFS;

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development (Soccer skills)

The children develop skills through participating and engaging in the fun and exciting programme that uses soccer and games.  The specific areas of the EYFS below play an important role in the delivery of the programme, with experiences and activities using all areas to gain a greater understanding and knowledge;

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Arts & Design

Soccer Lions sessions support individual children in the development of skills and abilities, working with abilities that children have already gained when they start the programme, enabling them to practice these skills whilst also learning new ones alongside.  Session plans take this method of learning and over a period of 12 weeks children will play favourite games they have become to love, with increasing skills blended in whilst also learning new games/skills to continually help children to develop.

Children will gain certificates throughout the programme when they show they can consistently participate in the skills, understanding and knowledge in the areas of the EYFS above.  They will show this through engaging in the sessions which use both adult and child led activities, group activities and independent skills.

Instructors who deliver the sessions use the session plans to encourage the development of the children whilst also using it to identify if children are in need of further help/support in any area.  Plans allow children to explore the equipment and activities, seeing what they can do, learn how to adapt if they are experiencing difficulties and to invent new ways of doing things and achieving.

The following table shows a breakdown of how the Soccer Lions programme achieves high percentages of engaging children in the EYFS, supporting parents and schools in children’s development.
